I’m sure that those that have attended my home circles will confirm that I’m forever going on about the importance of knowing how our OWN energy feels before we start connecting with our friends in the Spirit World and to me, there’s a number of reasons why this is so important.
Questions to consider
How can we notice very subtle changes within our awareness if we don’t have an in-depth knowledge of the feeling of the energy that is our own to start with?
How can we notice the very subtle changes our Spirit friends attempt to impress on us if we don’t know what is the essence of ourselves and what is being influenced by an external party?
How can we tell something relates to a visiting loved one if we can’t tell whether that feeling is our own?
A large percentage of the information received in our Mediumship is received with our CLEAR SENSING or “Clairsentience”.
The more familiar therefore we become with our own energy and the way that WE feel the easier it becomes to notice any changes around us initiated by others.
Some of the most important information our Spirit friends attempt to impress on us can be the most subtle and hardest to spot. Some of the tiniest of details can be the ones that really prove beyond doubt that we genuinely have communication and connection with a loved one or friend in place.
Having a very good knowledge of how the energy around us feels PRIOR to connecting with an external influence enables us over time to notice any variance with increasing ease but don’t expect this to come overnight! Like anything we do, the more we practice the more accomplished we become.
A simple approach
One of the simplest ways to consider this is to approach it in the same way we approached those spot the difference puzzles many of us did when we were children. You know the ones, two pictures printed next to each other with a number of changes we have to notice like the one shown below:
Firstly let us consider that the character portrayed on the left of the image is us.
At first glance, we form a quick impression and can easily describe this to another. The longer of course that we spend getting to know that image the more clearly we are to easily recall and describe it to others. The more and more that we study the more familiar it becomes and more detail can be remembered. The longer we sit and grow to recognise the image and the more attention we devote to all the details the easier it then becomes to recognise if any of the details change.
The image on the right represents the information being received while a spirit visitor or a loved one draws closer. The core elements are very similar to our own and the Spirit World works by drawing close to our energy and attempts to impress information around us that we can notice.
Sensing is like seeing (but without your eyes)
It’s much easier, of course, to work with the images shown above as we are using our physical sense of sight but it really isn’t that much different when we move into working with our sensing. As we learn more and more about ourselves and the way we feel the easier it becomes to notice areas that are changing. Once we are aware of a feeling or area that draws our attention the opportunities arise to then start moving into the information that change carries in order to provide FACTS about the person connecting from the Spirit World. We can then find out why that area feels different and relay this to the sitter.
As children, we started with a simple spot the difference puzzle with large easy to notice differences and gradually worked up to more challenging ones where the differences were harder to notice and I think this again is a good analogy of how our clairsentience unfolds. That early BIG information being for example GENDER moving over time towards aspects of ailments, build, features, jewellery, hairstyles, gait, the list really is endless.
A wealth of SPECIFIC information can be provided once our attention is drawn to anything we notice being attempted around us including but not limited to:
Physical ailments – aches and pains, becoming drawn to a specific area, changes noticed in our breathing
Physical build – feeling bigger, smaller, slimmer, fatter, age changes
The Mouth – gums, false teeth, missing teeth, whistles when speaking
Habits – Smoking gestures, hand movements, finger-clicking
The Face – So many details and such a sensitive area
The potential is huge. What can start as a very gentle tingle or thought when given the right attention can build into a wealth of information. A tiny numbing of the tongue can develop into a lisp, a tiny build of energy in the front of the teeth can develop into a whistle, and attention drawn to any area will have a purpose.
If we provide ourselves with a solid starting point by becoming familiar with our own energy those subtle differences become more noticeable and the quality of our Mediumship improves.
I know at times I miss information the Spirit World brings to me but have found that the more I learn about me the less that happens and the chances of something important slipping past reduces.
The preparation one can make simply by sitting in in their own energy regularly will be of great benefit. As the quality of your mediumship improves the quality of the information and evidence relaid to a sitter may just move their perception from one of “I think my loved one was present” to “I KNOW my loved one was present” and that is really what it’s all about!
Please do share this post if you have found it to be of interest with the buttons shown below.
As serving mediums, we can’t ask the ground to open up and swallow us if we get a string of no responses while working. I’ve not heard of any recent great escapes taking place while banging one’s heels together shouting “there’s no place like home”! What then are some of the options when faced with the dreaded NO word?
It happens to us all
We all get times when we seem to receive an endless list of confidence destroying “no no no no NOs”! but does it really have to be an ouch ouch ouch ouch OUCH experience? I think not. Does it define our mediumship as a whole? of course not!
I’m sure that all mediums, whether experienced or just starting out will at times be on the receiving end of the dreaded no word but it doesn’t have to be a career-ending experience. Should we really dread something which may provide an opportunity to improve our mediumship if we work through it?
When it FEELS like we are RIGHT?
Sometimes while we are passing on messages we are met with a NO response yet we may really feel that what we received was definitely from the spirit world and that we are right.
Our first reaction may be “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough” (often on my part escalated to my handing my notice into the Spirit World if it doesn’t improve)! Goodness knows how many times my guides and helpers have started preparing themselves to receive my resignation however, fortunately, like many things in life I’ve never got around to completing the paperwork!
So we (not the spirit world) decide we are rubbish! We are rubbish, we can’t do this, we don’t know why we bother, we’re disillusioned or we simply decide that our imagination is at work again and that we are making it up. Some of us may decide the sitter doesn’t like us or (like sometimes happens) they have just come to tear our work apart or challenge us as their own beliefs make it hard for them to accommodate what we do.
Only a moment ago we were so sure we’d got something right, plucked up the courage to share more information and no no no NO, ouch ouch ouch ouch OUCH! But secretly inside we KNOW we are right don’t we? we can just FEEL it!
The sitter is unlikely to intentionally be obstructive
It does happen from time to time and I’ve certainly experienced it, however, the vast majority of sitters request the services of a medium as they would genuinely like a communication from a loved one and a chance to receive a message that proves their loved one has arrived safely in the spirit world. They can however at times struggle to place accurate information through no fault of their own and this happened to me a few years ago sitting the other side of the microphone.
Sitters unintentional mental blocks
An example of my own rather embarrassing mental block occurred a few years ago when Tony Stockwell hosted an evening at the Norwich Puppet Theatre. In front of nearly 300 other people Tony gave me a very specific message from a friend that he proved beyond any doubt was communicating with him. He then went on to inform me that he was aware of me working in a garage and I replied no, very unlikely that would ever be the case.
Tony ==> “OK will you understand then I see you spending a lot of time in a garage”?
The muppet that is me at times responds with a nice clear “No”…..
Tony ==> “I don’t want to tell everyone your business but why wouldn’t you understand you’re working in a garage”?
Engaging ones enhanced dumb mode that’s so embedded in me at times I responded with “Because I don’t know much about cars”. GENUINELY having forgotten that my garage at home had just been converted into a beautiful mediumship room which I’m in now as I type this document.
Tony represented the information in a number of ways never moving away from the truth behind the statement and I fortunately then had a sudden moment of realisation during the demonstration which enabled me to accept the information as I then knew what was being discussed. A prime example of a top quality medium with the correct information being right, yet still being faced with a negative response through no malice or hidden agenda on the sitters part.
Fortunately, when faced with a no response a very high level experienced medium demonstrated the correct way to proceed ensuring the integrity of the information was maintained and not lost. Now, what would have happened if Tony had not persevered, not gone back to the spirit world and clarified the information? I learned much that evening about the perspective of the sitter and the unintentional mental blocks on the part of the sitter that at times we really can’t prevent.
Destroying the sitting ourselves
It happens, and I see this time and time again. A medium often with much potential lets go of information and gives up and decides to move on and gets nothing simply because they’ve let their mind move away from the job in hand. They have slipped out of that power they work within and lost their focus. If they do recover and get back into the power they may again pick up the same information they received previously which they’ve already written off so again they give up, drop out of that power and decide to given themselves a spiritual bashing (all of which emanates from this side of life)! The medium effectively destroys the sitting and for a short while their confidence and self-belief.
It could simply be that the information being received is correct but then it’s been translated or described incorrectly by the medium. The information hasn’t been fully investigated or explored and instead has been discarded too early. The Spirit World still want the information delivered so we see the same thing that we’ve just been given a NO to and we can’t move on as Spirit will not pass us different information until we’ve successfully delivered that which they are communicating to us. We become stuck and at this point, the success or failure of the sitting is very much in the hands of the medium and how they proceed. We can ask the spirit world to help us present the information in a way it can be understood and it may be a point when we also find that the information is incorrect and we can move on.
Is the sitter just being kind?
If after a number of no response we then find when we start getting “yes” responses it’s natural if we aren’t confident enough in our abilities to enter into the “are they just saying yes to be nice to us” phase. Those times when you want to ask the sitter “really, is that really right”? We then cast doubt on the very foundation of our work and that’s not acceptable for are we not then also casting doubt on those special communicators and bringing the spirit world into question. With experience, we can, of course, feel when the sitter is being truthful or not and do they really think we don’t know?
The intelligence of the Spirit World
We must remember we are dealing with an intelligence that is sending us that information and we can interrogate the source of that information, ask for additional supporting information, ask for assistance, send up a “come on guys I feel I’m on the right track help me out here” and investigate what we are receiving to determine what the meaning behind the information really is.
An example from a group night
We’ve shared many wonderful training nights at mine and most nights everyone does really well. I would, however, like to share one example that occurred that I hope helps others reading this post.
A very capable lady in a group of mine is working with an item in a psychometry evening and issues the following statements to another friend:
I believe you have just had a very busy day – NO
I believe you have a dog – NO
something about water – err, NO! (see how that floppy statement indicates doubt creeping in)?
Three strikes and out?
Tempting for the lady trying to provide the information certainly. But what if that information is of value, has an importance, is, in fact, being received from the Spirit World? We have to determine firstly if we are wrong i.e. it feels wrong because we can be and have to recognise that happens. No one is 100% right with every statement ALL of the time (except of course my lovely wife Tracey), Hmm moving on….
If we FEEL that information is still right we need to go back into that information to find out what it means and with a little help that night we did that and were presented with the following statement:
“I believe that you know a person in the Spirit World who was always very very busy, had a dog and lived near the sea” – the response changed to a Yes Yes Yes…….
The very same information, therefore, is presented with a little more understanding and that information is then understood. Proof that the practising medium is RIGHT, and having delivered information built around the first 3 simple images provides someone in spirit an opportunity to communicate with someone they know.
FANTASTIC and exactly what the Spirit World and the medium are trying to achieve. This very nearly becoming one of those turn our back and run experiences! With a little more effort and openness they turned that “No I can’t do this” into “actually, I am getting the information but I haven’t had the confidence or tried to interrogate and ask why I’m getting that information”.
We then have to build more on that information as they are quite open statements, however, having set that foundation in place for the communication to take place puts us in a much better place than we were a few minutes previously.
Picking up the power again
If you getting lots of “No” responses with your mediumship have a think about whether you may be letting go of the information and are moving on too quickly? I urge you to take a moment to accept you have that “no” and go back into that power, and ask what is behind it. We now that while that power can be held and that connection with the Spirit World is maintained that there’s always the opportunity to obtain more relevant and accurate information.
Question the Spirit World
Investigate WHY that information has been received. The Spirit World will not waste time sending you information that is wrong but we must learn to ask for additional information if we can’t deliver it correctly. Our spirit friends will try as much as they can to lead you to the correct statements and we mustn’t forget that those helpers, inspirers, guides and relatives in the Spirit World have to learn how we work and they’ll adapt and find a way to work with us just like we have to do to learn how they work from their side of life.
One’s mediumship gently unfolds over a lifetime yet the wrong reaction to the NO word has the potential to destroy a very capable medium if an investigation into those no responses doesn’t take place. Sadly this may also remove an opportunity for a loved one to connect back to our world and it may be a very long time until they get that opportunity again!

Colours contain a wealth of invaluable information, this, a document shared with the permission of Rose contains her interpretation of colour having read the energy/aura of many different people over many years.
There is a huge amount of colour interpretation information available on the internet. Having met Rose a number of times and having deep respect and trust for her work this is the one I use for reference with students and I am confident that sharing this on my site will help many others trying to grasp a small part of what can be a huge and very interesting subject of discovery.
We shouldn’t approach the colours within the aura as merely hard bands of colour stepping out one from another as often shown in images we see on the internet as the Auric field is very much alive and changes constantly. This is influenced by our physical health, our emotional states, our spiritual place at any time and our mental state. These four states, of course, having much influence on each other and mood swings also having a major effect not only in the colouring but in the expansion and withdrawal of the Auric Field. We can of course quite simply use visualisation to over-ride the current state.
If we decide to undertake serious research and learning about the Aura we again start on a massive journey with so many interpretations by a wealth of publishers and again I would urge that you don’t just follow any text-book meanings as a given. Experiment, experience, ask that your Spiritual Helpers bring forth information and if you attempt to interpret colours in an Aura TRUST the information even though at times variations from the text-book lessons occur.
Build a catalogue of the colours in the way that you understand and can remember. If you associate healing as GREEN and I associate it as BLUE and we link into a HEALER we will receive the colour that we associate as correct. Some of us SEE the auric colours, many of us KNOW the auric colours, the majority initially in my opinion SENSE the auric colours.
Don’t be despondent if you don’t see colours in the auric field. I’d given up on it ever happening and then around 5 years after I first attempted this I saw beautiful colouring above the head of a very spiritual friend and I was absolutely stunned. It hasn’t happened again since in the same way but it happened once and that proves to me that these colours do exist and that they are living elements not just blocks of hard lines with one colour ceasing as another begins.
We must always remember is to use our intuition, it’s there for a reason and we may find that we work in different ways to each other. Find out what works for you and in time you will easily be able to call on colours as a great tool to support your mediumship.
Placement of colours in the Aura
Left Side (future) – The colour on the left side is normally the vibration coming into your being. The closer it is to you, the sooner it will be felt. This could be a few moments, hours, or as long as a few months.
Centre (experience) – The colour seen over your head is what you experience for your self now. It is the colour that would best describe you. If the colour is high, it could mean aspirations, or what you wish to be.
Right Side (expression) – The colour on the right side is traditionally the energy being expressed. This is the vibration frequency most likely seen or felt by others around you. Many times, your friends will think this the energy that you are made of. However, it is what you are putting out to the world.

I’ve always enjoyed Psychometry, The feelings you can get from tapping into energies embedded in an object. The exciting information you can obtain by holding that item and tuning in to it!
Psychometry I’ve found is a subject there is so much interest in. Psychometry is something I’m often asked to demonstrate. Often it is referred to as “the thing you do when you hold an object”! Because of that interest, I decided to write this document.
Psychometry is a PSYCHIC ability
Psychometry is a psychic ability. Psychics are able to read or sense the history of some objects by touching them and may be able to receive information very accurately. They may be able to hear sounds, see images, receive smells or tastes. There are times when they can feel emotions from an object. Psychics may find some types of items work better than others. They may get no information from one item yet manage to get lots from the next. Some materials may hold information better than others too.
Approach with an open mind
Approach psychometry with an open mind with no preconceptions of what may or may not be received from an item. I have found a number of times that I have started working with an item on a psychic link (psychometry) and this has then naturally lead on to a mediumistic link. The items previous owner may arrive and provide more information. Early stages of my development involved borrowing items of jewellery from a number of kind friends and then in return giving them a sheet of information I’d been aware of as I practised. At times I got some pretty good results.
Like anything, of course, there were times I didn’t but it was a great way of getting in some practice.
My most interesting experience
In the past, my most interesting attempt at psychometry arose when a cherished friend (now back over the other side) showed me a treasured family box with 5 old war medals inside. As I started to lift the lid to see what was inside I was very aware that the contents were originally owned by two separate men.
I had no prior knowledge of this, and it was as though the two original owners took an immediate interest and visited their relation who brought the medals to mine. I knew this to be factual as I could see two very different gentlemen present and gauge who owned which medals just by their reaction as I removed them one by one from the box.
Scrying and divination
Psychometry is known as a type of scrying or divination, a psychic way of seeing or obtaining information about an item without using what is classed as our 5 normal senses (seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling).
Some people scry using a mirror, a bowl of water, a tray of sand, or a crystal ball. With psychometry, this vision and information retrieval is available by holding an item or even by just sitting in a location.
What are we aiming for?
When working with psychometry I have been able to hold an item (again I will use one of the medals as an example) in order to obtain information about the history of the item. I was able to receive information about the person who owned the item, and I was able to get information about the person’s life while they were in possession of the item. I have had flashback images of their life, what they did to earn the medal and also obtain information about how they left this world and joined the next. The person’s emotions were strongly linked to the item and it was relatively easy to pick up on any strong opinions they had while they were alive, how they were emotionally, and what type of person they were. Physical descriptions of the person and their conditions/interests/habits were available once that link was established.
The history of psychometry
“Psychometry” as a term was originally used by Joseph R. Buchanan in 1842 and it was taken from two Greek words. The first being psyche meaning “soul” and the second being metron meaning “measure”.
Joseph Rodes Buchanan is believed to be the first person to experiment with psychometry by placing different drugs in glass vials and then he would ask for identifications to be made by his students just by holding them. He ascertained that the success rate was higher than could be expected from random guesses and the rate of success was, therefore, higher than just being one of chance.
Joseph Buchanan published a book called the Journal of Man and included his results on psychometry in it. His theory was that all objects or physical items have souls that are able to retain a memory.
Some psychical researchers think the information about an object is recorded in its aura or energy field surrounding it. Some think that the information is held in the items magnetic field almost like an ability to record information like a tape recorder. The psychic can, therefore, be thought of as a tape player, recalling the information held about the item.
Following the publication of the Journal of Man other renowned professionals have continued experiments into psychometry including American professor of geology William F. Denton who’s sister could identify geological specimens that were wrapped in cloth and describe the contents through mental images she received.
This, of course, is when documentation was made. Psychometry goes back far longer than when it was first written about.
So, a consideration, therefore, must be what it is about me that enables me to use this skill to recall accurate proven information about an item?
Is it my friends in the spirit world transferring the information to me? I think not. I do think that when there is a mediumistic link with the owner of the item that the spirit world is very much involved but whilst working psychically, I sense no link to the spirit world in place at all. Psychometry however naturally leads into picking up the link of spirit and is, therefore, a good way to start out when you want to unfold your mediumship.
Although some believe that psychometry is influenced by the spirit it is more generally considered to be a natural ability of the human mind. We are ALL psychic. I have no special gifts that you don’t have when working psychically, however, I have chosen to develop this skill and the more I practice the better the results appear to be. Therefore the skill must lie within us all and the possibility of working with psychometry is an option we all possess.
An exercise YOU can try!
The key is the same with any other ability or skill you wish to improve. Practice, practice and more practice!
Sit in a place that has no distractions, is peaceful, and quiet.
Have someone with you that you trust that also knows information about the item you are going to work with.
Make sure that you are as comfortable as possible and close your eyes.
Ask the other person present to put the item in your hand without you seeing it. This can work well if there’s more than one person in the room and the item can be passed to you without you knowing who’s it is.
Tell the owner you don’t want information about the item in advance.
Get an item that has been owned for a long time.
Initially, clear your mind and try to focus on the item. As feelings or images come into your mind say them out loud.
Trust and say whatever you see or feel or sometimes hear as you sense the object. Don’t try to understand or interpret any of the information, just keep saying it as you get it.
No-one available to work with? Borrow an item and then record your thoughts about the item so the person who supplied the item can comment afterwards. I believe it is important to get feedback otherwise we never know if we are getting it right. If we don’t know this we may soon lose interest.
Commit to the information if it feels right
Don’t worry if you may be wrong, or worry that something you describe may seem silly.
I have found some of the most bizarre-seeming information has been the most accurate and evidential. It’s like anything else, the more you practice the better you will become and the information available is like a big bag of goodies, the more you dip in the more you can discover. It is important to insist on fair and accurate feedback from the owner of the item.
If you get something they don’t understand it is important they tell you. Try to work out why you got that information and what it means.
Be kind to yourself
Don’t worry too much about your rate of accuracy at first. The best psychics in the world don’t get everything right.
Start off by trying to give someone 3 good clear accurate pieces of information and build on from there. Just observe all the impressions that come to your mind and describe them. Often the most unexpected images are likely to be the most accurate.
We must accept that the person may not know the information you are giving them. There will be times this happens when you are SURE that you are right. One example springs to mind of a reading I did in a practice group with a gold ring. Time and time again I said I could see boats and a ship going past. The owner couldn’t understand this and kept telling me that it made no sense. During a coffee, after the session, the owner explained that they had found the ring on a beach!
You’re very safe while working with psychometry
ENJOY the work and the practice, it’s a privilege so don’t give out information that isn’t of a positive nature. We do this work to help each other. If you pick up an item and don’t like the way it feels put it down again. You’re not going to attract a negative attachment. It’s not the devil’s work. We aren’t digging up any loved ones or attaching them to an object for eternity! No item will place you under psychic attack or turn you into a frog overnight!
EXPERIMENT, what’s to say that the way I work is correct for you?
ENJOY the experience you never know what you may stumble across!
I’ve written “Booking a Reputable Medium” in the hope that it will help others make a more informed decision when appointing a medium. You are always welcome to Contact Me if you have questions.
Definitions used in this document
Medium – one that makes themselves available to the Spirit World to act as a go-between. One who has the ability to use more than their 5 senses to gain and pass on information from the Spirit world to the Sitter.
Sitter – the recipient of the information. The medium arranges an appointment with the sitter.
Sitting – the arranged time where the medium attempts to work with the Spirit World and the sitter.
Firstly a few questions:
How can you know if you are appointing a reputable medium?
Could you tell whether the medium you are appointing will work primarily with your interests in mind instead of their own?
Is it possible to work out accurately who the good mediums are? “Good” by definition as being honest, able and working with integrity.
Can you spot those that have hidden agendas?
In my opinion, it can be quite challenging and is increasingly becoming more difficult. I hope that this document assists you and may get you to consider things you haven’t previously thought about.
What if we all had a look about us?
Wouldn’t it be so much easier if good mediums had a certain “look” about them? Looks indicating that they have been woken up multiple times at night by bumps on the bed. A look that shows they are a bit, well, “haunted”? Maybe displaying an unstable appearance with aspects of emotional wreckage thrown in for good measure? All a bit tongue in cheek admittedly but I do feel it is harder than ever for someone to know if a medium is the right one for them. It’s not just as easy as spotting them in a crowd!
Finding a reputable medium
Those mediums that are genuine and working with the right intentions can quite easily be found. Gone are the days when we had to hide away with a fear of being persecuted for our beliefs. Mediumship is much less of a taboo than of years past so ask about. If a friend has engaged the services of a medium previously ask them how they got on. Word of mouth is a valuable tool. There may be a reluctance to discuss sittings for the fear of being ridiculed or laughed at.
A minefield of intentions
The downside of mediumship is that it has become overshadowed by commercialism and new age hobbyists seeking financial gain. It provides a platform for those that thrive on showmanship. It fuels those that seek the “look at me I’m special” culture. Those with physical egotistical demands at times find opportunities under the guise of “mediumship”. They appear to overlook that mediumship for others is not about themselves. Mediumship attracts those that wrongly think it’s easy and will provide fame and fortune. It regularly turns slightly spiritual people into people with no spiritualism at all. Where ever there is the opportunity to take advantage many do. Sadly work that attracts vulnerable people inherently provides opportunities for those with hidden agendas. Fortunately, there are just as many good mediums openly available too.
There are many reputable mediums available
In the UK we are fortunate and there are good mediums sprinkled all around who work with the right intention. Genuine honest and lovely people hoping to make a difference. They don’t generally drive big flashy cars, you won’t get out of puff walking along their driveways. They are ordinary down to earth people rewarded by the work they do. They often battle with themselves about the “money thing” and all to often subject themselves to far more criticism than anyone else ever could.
An increasing number of mediums are becoming members of professional organisations which have strict codes of conduct and disciplinary and complaints procedures in place. This membership will be something the medium has paid for. It demonstrates that the medium is both genuine and passionate about what they are doing. Over the next few years, I think the number of mediums with professional memberships will increase as legislation is reviewed and I think this is a good thing. If a medium is advertising they have a professional membership you are entitled to ask to see their membership identification details. A genuine medium would not be in any way offended if asked to prove what they are telling you.
Sensible precautions worth consideration
Your experience should be a positive one. Even though it is addressing a very difficult subject. You can with a few sensible considerations prepare ahead of appointing a medium:
“Well-known” doesn’t mean “good”
More expensive doesn’t mean better!
Mediums should not ask personal questions.
Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right trust your intuition and move on.
Avoid mediums that tell you what life changes you MUST make.
Avoid mediums that guarantee you they can get specific loved ones for you. (we can’t).
Consider asking friends for recommendations.
Consider speaking with your SNU church who will have a list of local certified and reputable mediums.
Avoid chat lines and premium rate services.
Don’t tell the medium anything in advance, you can choose not to disclose your surname.
Don’t send the medium a social friends request.
Don’t hire a medium you personally know.
Don’t tell the medium who you would like to hear from.
Ask the medium how much the sitting will cost. Check with a couple of others and see if it’s a fair and reasonable price.
Ask how long the sitting will take.
Ask the medium how many sittings you will need. If they suggest multiple ones walk away.
Ask the medium if they will charge you if the sitting isn’t successful. Look for the “you are paying for my time statement” in which case I’d suggest you avoid.
Ask if you can bring a sitting to an end if it’s not good enough on the day with no costs incurred.
Ask if you can record your sitting (a good medium has no reason to deny this request).
Ask if the medium is a member of a professional body. This doesn’t mean all mediums with no accreditation are inferior though.
How long should I wait since a person has passed
There really is no specific timescale. You will need time to grieve, to come to an acceptance and to heal. There isn’t a defined answer.
I’ve often heard the phrase “the sitting didn’t work as you didn’t wait long enough”. I don’t, however, buy into that one. It’s a great alibi for a struggling medium though. Many times I’ve received communications from loved ones within a very short time. Other times it has taken years and some friends I’ve discussed this very question with over 10 years ago still wait patiently.
I believe firstly that great importance should be given to ourselves this side of life to ensure we are ready. There’s no need to rush so just wait until you feel the time is right. I have seen numerous people spending lots of time and money chasing a contact to the point it becomes like an addiction. I’m sure that’s not the intention of our loved ones. They wouldn’t want us to do that.
I would only suggest you first ensure you are in the right place in your life without worrying too much about set timescales. I’ve been asked recently whether loved ones leave forever if you don’t try to connect with them quickly enough. I’m sure that isn’t the case.
During your sitting
Record the sitting or ask for it to be recorded
There are a number of reasons I welcome the recording of sittings:
it protects you and the medium, providing detailed information in the event of a misunderstanding.
recordings provide an opportunity to listen back to things you may have missed
you can share your recording with others that find it beneficial
Don’t just agree with everything
You can tell the medium if you are told something you don’t understand. The mediums connection should be with your loved ones who retain their intelligence, their memories, and their personality. You should ask that the medium explains in more detail anything that isn’t understood. They want to get proof of their survival across. Please don’t just say yes to anything if you aren’t sure. It’s great for us to get most things correct but we do have an idea when you say we are right and we are not. Mediums will not be offended if you don’t understand something or reply with a “no”.
Consider if there’s a healthy amount of unique information included
Sensibly at times ask yourself if everything said so far would fit the majority of people. Look out for information that is particular to you only. Watch out for the average granny that baked, the “parent” that had a temper” the nanny with the pinny, the things that we all could agree to.
Evidence is in the accuracy of information received
If you do have an interest in a sitting I would advise that you approach the subject with an open mind. If you visit a medium reach your own conclusions based on the percentage of specific information you were provided with weighed against what I term “the fluffy stuff” ie the statements that would match 99% of sitters.
I’ve not met a medium yet that hits 100% accurate information with every single statement for every single sitting and we all have days when for reasons we often don’t know sittings are just a struggle. If you are of a certain age range and your “Nan” is of an average height and of an average age, with a pantry who is wearing an apron, and had a problem breathing as she passed then, in my opinion, the quality of the sitting is not of a high enough standard and you shouldn’t be expected to pay. There really should be a healthy balance of statements specific about the person that doesn’t fit all if you wiggle it about and bend it a bit.
Don’t pay for an inferior service
Consumer Protect Rights protect UK clients. You have the right to stop the sitting if it isn’t good enough. If the food in a restaurant isn’t up to scratch you wouldn’t pay. If your sitting isn’t of a good enough standard I would suggest you don’t pay. It’s the same principle. You expect a professional service and if you don’t get it why should you pay? Mediums that pressurise you into paying for sub-standard sittings should be brought to the attention of your local Trading Standards Office.
A genuine medium wouldn’t expect payment for an inferior sitting. A financially driven opportunist however would. The way you are treated when sittings aren’t going to plan is just as important (if not more so) than when they are. Consumer Law is in your favour. Be fair. When the majority of the sitting provides accurate unique information you should be prepared to pay the requested amount. If half of the sitting was good maybe negotiate a lower amount.
Follow up sittings and a mediums motives
I am at times asked to arrange further sittings shortly after successful ones. In my opinion to agree immediately would be unhealthy for the requestor who needs at times to let go and move on in their life so my response is always that I would sit again for them but respectfully ask that they wait for at least 6 months. There have been many times when I could easily have reached for the diary and repeatedly booked them in with only the financial aspects considered and this would be so very wrong.
Contacts with loved ones in a Mediumship sitting should be about celebrating their life and their shared memories. They should be about taking the opportunity it brings to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the person’s spirit never dies and to sensitively relay that message in order to bring comfort to those this side of life. It should not be a repetitive regular meet up that ultimately fuels the mediums bank account and feeds the sitters grieving process in an unhealthy manner.
We all have off days
All mediums, however good, experience off days. It is the way that they treat you when they do that is extremely important and will influence whether you attempt another sitting with them at a later date. If you have had a good experience with a medium tell your friends, the medium will appreciate the advertisement. If you have had a bad experience with a medium again tell your friends as those working with the wrong intent will find it more difficult to work as knowledge about them spreads. They do of course have the option to either improve their standards of Mediumship or retire. I do urge you, however, to be fair in whatever you tell others. A medium is a representative of the Spirit World. At times it’s a very hard yet rewarding position with a high level of responsibility.
How long should I wait for a reattempt
We all get times when a sitting hasn’t gone well in which case I will not have charged for my time. If requested to do so I may attempt to sit again but would request that the sitter waits for at least 6 months before the next try. This gives time for Spirit friends to work on the difficulties experienced and prepare for the next sitting and so far this seems to have brought about the desired effect as the second sittings have up until now been much more successful than the first. Those helping from the Spirit World will do as much as they possibly can to ensure the next sitting is successful. We do however need to give them the time needed to make those adjustments so 6 months to me seems a practical suggestion.
The 6 month waiting time also presents the sitter with an opportunity to consider whether they want to try again with me or look for a different medium. The way that I treat the sitter determines their future actions. I am building a service based on reputation. Mediums must be honest about the difficulties they experience. Nothing can take place that has the potential to destroy the very thing I’m attempting to achieve. One sitting now incorporating any fraudulent activity could potentially remove the opportunity for other special reunions between sitters and their loved ones in future – so why would I?
Is the sitting a failure?
I believe that NO sitting is ever a failure. Even if I’ve struggled I’ve started off a process of learning for those trying to contact the sitter and they can learn how to contact at a later date in a clearer way.
Monetary exchanges form contracts
(UK specific information) A contract exists when a medium accepts money from you. Donations and payments are regulated by Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. This means that the person taking the money has to provide you with exactly what they have said. The Trading Standards Office will advise if you have a problem. The Professional body the medium belongs to will also have an interest in issues reported.
Approach a medium with an open mind and let them try to work for you and you may find that you have an opportunity to rediscover those you thought had gone forever. Professional mediums will not try to convert you or your beliefs and expect very little in return. After all, the providing of factual evidence that proves beyond reasonable doubt that your loved ones have survived death, and having the ability to reconnect you with them is very rewarding. There’s no need for us to make anything up, the information is there available for us to use. Your loved ones want to connect with you. They want to connect with you. We want to be of service. It’s a recipe for success in most cases. We make progress. Those first important steps are in place.
Tell everyone honestly how you’re experience was. The good mediums would appreciate the recommendations. The more that know about those that aren’t’ good the better as it makes it harder for them to work. Be fair though. How did the medium treat you?
